Make a Valentine Pocket

Tools and Materials:

Scissors

Stapler

Large sheets of construction paper in red, white, pink or lavender.

White glue or paper glue stick

Optional Decorations:

Old Valentine cards to cut and paste for decoration

Glitter Glue

Markers

Doilies

Bits of lace, silk flowers

Valentine stickers

Pieces of felt or craft foam

Ribbon or yarn

Beads, pipe cleaners or other random craft decorations

Directions:

Cut two large identical hearts from construction paper. Put them together with glue around the edges or staples. Leave the top part open so it makes a pocket.  (You could also punch holes around the edge and sew them together by running a piece of ribbon or yarn through the holes.)

Once you have made a pocket Decorate it by cutting, folding, drawing, writing, or attaching paper, craft items or stickers. Make it look any way you like. Above are a few examples made by children.

Use:

You can put any Valentines you get into your heart pocket. Moms, dads, grandparents and siblings can put Valentines into pockets for one another. They can also hold "I love you" notes or small candy treats. If your family fills it up, open it at dinner on Valentine's Day.
